解释:

佛教经典中所记载的佛。译自胡语。他原是世自在王如来时的法藏比丘，发愿成就一个尽善尽美的佛国，并要以最善巧的方法来度化众生，后来成佛，创造西方极乐世界。法藏比丘则成为阿弥陀佛。记载阿弥陀佛故事的经典，早在东汉即有翻译。六朝时强调往生极乐世界的思想，就是建立在阿弥陀佛信仰上。并逐渐形成后来的净土宗。随着净土宗在中国的普及，阿弥陀佛成为最流行的佛陀。

甚至阿弥陀佛四字成为一般中国佛教徒间相互问候语。往生净土决疑行愿二门： “每日清晨服饰已后，面西正立，合掌连声，称阿弥陀佛尽一气为一念，如是十气名为十念。亦称为“无量寿佛”。
